Foundations January 2019 (Cohort 17)

Ivy Walker · June 4, 2018

Welcome!!!

This is your online classroom area for the Foundations Modules.

When a cohort starts the NCC training they begin with the four Foundation Modules. These modules are offered in sequence and complete the first semester of the program. Once completed, the cohort moves on to the ToolBox Modules where students practice and enhance the foundational skills learned during the Foundation Modules. There are three major categories of learning goals that make up the Foundation Modules:

  • Nature-Connection and Relationship
  • Coaching Competencies
  • Transformational Guiding Competencies

Nature-Connection and Relationship:

Nature-Connection is a state of mind, a way of being.  It is accessible to all people.  It is our birth-right. All our senses are wired for it, our brains and bodies are wired for it.  Nature-connection practices reminds that Nature is the real healer/teacher. We as Nature-Connected Coaches and Guides are facilitators.  Additionally, through our own connected relationship with nature we can learn a ton about how to show-up in the coaching/guiding relationships we share with our clients.

Coaching Competencies:

Professional Coaching is a non-clinical modality for supporting change and growth in clients.  It’s competencies are applicable to many different types of clients such as life-coaching clients, businesses, personal relationships, executives, etc.  The NCC program focus on life-coaching, and during the foundation modules we learn what is expected of us as Professional Coaches while discovering our unique “Coaching Presence”

Transformational Guiding Competencies:

These competencies are what make the NCC work unique from other forms of coaching and guiding. Skills like Deep Listening, Ceremony Facilitation, and Nature as the Guide are not taught anywhere else, or in the same way. Honing these skills will separate you from the rest of the coaches and guides out there, increasing your effectiveness and the power of your sessions with your clients.

You will be given a copy at the start of the program, but feel free to download a copy of the competencies.

  • Below is an outline of different steps involved in completing this part of the training.
  • Below that is a text box that connects you to the group discussion area. Anything you enter into that text area will be shared with the group, similar to a news feed in Facebook.

    Hi All!

My name is Melissa but my friends call me MJ. I am based out of Philadelphia, PA. I’m currently a Logistics Manager for a design company but looking to shift my career and change my life. This will be a great way to hit the reset button. I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you, and also getting to know myself better. Hi MJ, Welcome!

Having taken a few of the online courses offered, I can tell you that, in fact, EBI does help you to get to know yourself better and helps to hit the reset button.

This is a huge step for me as well, but my comfort zone needs to be shaken up a little.

I look forward to connecting with you more. 🙂

Hey everyone! My name is Ben & I’m part of this Cohort. I’m sitting here on my front porch taking a break from a busy morning. Enjoying the cool breeze and just watched as a Coopers Hawk tried to snatch a Robin on the edge of the meadow….pretty cool and right in the open too!

I have a background in Eco-Therapy work, teaching, and Ecology.

Currently I am in the stage of starting my own business – NATURELINK,LLC (mynaturelink.org) Check us out!

We work with helping individuals (3 yr old to adult) form deep nature connection and relationships with others + the natural world, and we then guide them towards applying their gifts back in their community. Really looking forward to learning with all of you and going on this amazing journey with Earth Based Institute 🙂

Hello everyone! My name is Morgana and I live in Broomfield, CO currently but may be relocating to Arvada soon. I have a bachelors in Contemplative Psychology from Naropa University.

I’m a Pagan practitioner so nature is a big part of my life. I work as an energy healer and crystal therapist at 8 Hands Martial Arts and Panthers’ Gate Metaphysical School and Store, collectively known as MUSE, located in Broomfield. Here we teach holistic martial arts that brings it back to its spiritual discipline roots, as well as esoteric practices. We offer a range of classes that focus on the individual and bringing them back to their center. Check us out at http://www.8handsmartialartsco.com and please feel free to contact me with any questions.

I look forward to expanding my knowledge and being able to offer more to our clients. I truly believe getting back in touch with nature is the way to go and can’t wait to see where this new journey takes me.

Hi There! Not sure if this is the appropriate forum to ask… on figuring out my sit spot. Question – what are your tips for weather? Would love to hear how folks adapt to a daily practice with the weather changes in Colorado. I can imagine that times of challenging weather may be some of the biggest opportunities for growth, but would love any logistical tips to be prepared.

Taylor, this is totally the appropriate forum to ask! We are here to support each other. The goal is to be out in nature as much as possible. But, it defeats the purpose if doing so causes you stress. If weather is inclement, are you able to still sit quietly and allow yourself to meditate and reflect? Maybe turning on nature sounds would allow you to experience nature from the comfort of the indoors? If rain is the issue, do you have a room where you can sit and listen to the rain and immerse yourself in the sound? Or better yet, put on your rain coat and boots and head outside, having an emotional response in “bad” weather can be quite cathartic.

Thanks Joshua! Makes sense – thank you! I have found and been connecting in my sit spot daily for this last week. I do like your suggestions for nature sounds if weather doesn’t permit outdoors. Will see how the weather transpires my journey. I am planning on bundling up when it’s chilly and using my gardening mat to sit on when the earth is damp/snowy. Looking forward experiencing this through the seasons. Have also decided to maintain my morning meditation practice that I do indoors as well. Looking forward to hearing everyone’s experiences!

    Hi all!

I just booked my flight today for the January intensive. I’m coming from Philly and got a sweet deal for $157 round trip, so I am super stoked.
Where is everyone thinking of staying? Is anyone looking to share an Air BNB? I’d like to save some dollars if possible and roomie up!

    Love & Light,
    MJ

      MJ,

Thank you for being the first to ask this. I was wondering the same. I have actually never used an Air BnB so I’m not familiar with how it all works. Did you have any thoughts on transportation? Is it safe to assume that your flight is getting in sometime Thursday? I still need to book my flight out, and it might be good to try to coordinate if possible. How many of us are actually needing to fly in and find accommodations?

Following up to the traveling, lodging, transportation link ups conversations:

I am trying to get a flight from Atlanta to Denver the day before everything starts on the January 24th. Haven’t booked a flight yet…..

But…am in need of lodging and transportation somewhere in Boulder (I usually travel with my bike and use it for transportation but will not be taking it this trip)

If someone or multiple members from our group are willing to buddy up on transportation and lodging with me then that would be fantastic! We could split the price of Renting a car and lodging (AirBNB)?
*NOTE* – There will be two nights where I am staying with a friend**

I thought about staying at Starhouse (where training is) but since I have multiple friends in the boulder area I thought that if I stayed in towns then one of the evenings I could catch back up with them.

Anybody want to go in with me?

I would be down with splitting the cost of an AirBnB with someone / a group of people and sharing the cost of a car. Ben mentioned staying at the star house. I didnt realize that was an option. What are the costs with that? Is there a maximum number of people it can accommodate?

Does anyone know what time we would be finished on 2/2? Should we plan on flying out that day or would it be better to wait until Sunday 2/3?

Maybe Ivy –– Could you respond to Joshua’s question?

Joshua –– I’m down for splitting an AirBnB with you and whomever else is interested (just need to know a total # of people interested). My wife and daughter were going to come out with me this January trip but then decided not to (hence the stay at Starhouse). I’m assuming that Starhouse may be pricier than an AirBnb.
Not sure though, and would have to call them to figure that out.

I am Going to start looking at AirBnb’s this week and if I find one I will run it by yalls way. Maybe one that can hold up to 4 of us if two more people tag along we could split it multiple ways?
–– Just to note –– I also will be staying a night or two at a friends house in Boulder.

Cohort peps who live in Boulder ––
Any chance we could set up a car pool system so us “out-of-towners” won’t have to rent cars?…..

I am flying in the 24th just so I have a date/night to settle down and then I am flying out late Sun Feb 3rd.
I know the classes run from like 9am-4:30pm or something like that. So I will be looking for lodging for the 24th to the 3rd. I have done Air BNB many many times.
Please all feel free to add me on Facebook or Instagram @decemberjam and maybe we can start a group chat for those who wanna share accommodations.
I found some Air BNB’s very close to the Star House. I’m looking to save as much money by cooking at home, etc so that’s why an Air BNB attracts me, also a hot tub is a bonus HAHAHA.
