These are some very well detailed long-term coaching plans with space for organic and intuitive growth and collaboration with nature. Stacy and Doc, what you have shared are perfect templates for transformational work with your client and I hope you both get the chance to integrate this plan into action with your client! And if so, I would love to hear what you notice and experience as a guide and collaborator on their journey and process.

Great work and love the focus and intention you both have brought to this course!

Yesterday morning I had a meeting with Ivy, one of the other faculty and student mentors here at EBI. Many of you have probably connected with her or have received an email from her at some point.

During our meeting we were literally talking about deep listening and embracing compassion during these times and current events. And in our conversation I began thinking about how nature practices compassion and deep listening and I brought up the fascinating relationship that trees have with one another. And that trees do talk with each other! It has been proven with science! They speak through releasing pheromones into the air or through a symbiotic relationship with mycelium that relay distress signals from one tree to the other nearby trees. Trees communicate in order to support each other and to send healing nutrients that another tree may desperately need.

Nature is an amazing teacher. And during this conversation it reminded Ivy and I that we must communicate with an open heart and listen deeply with an open heart with one another. We must learn to collaborate and be compassionate with one another if we are going to create a wholesome and thriving ecosystem. On a minor and major scale. And the greatest tool we can all practice is deep listening. And deep listening can only be manifested when we drop our judgments and criticisms so that we can listen without any filter inside of us getting in the way. The trees communicate with compassion and so can we. And just imagine the amount of compassion and healing that we can empower and create if the trees are able to do so without any eyes, ears, or mouths.

Wayne and Lynn, wonderful reflections and insights from both of you. I love how a wander sounds like it natural and intuitive for both of you! Nature is always ready to collaborate and teach us things and it is only when we allow that wisdom and baseline to align with our inner baseline can we really start to see and experience all the beauty and splendor that nature has to share with us and show us.

Yesterday I went for a wander after an afternoon thunder shower came through the Front Range in Colorado and I was amazed by the amount of growth and greenness that was flourishing throughout the forest where I took my wander. Blue, yellow and purple wildflowers were scattering the forest floor and the trees were blooming with new life throughout my whole excursion. As I allowed myself to slow down and listen to what this was telling me, I realized that new life and growth like this can only truly occur after a storm. That the storms in nature are temporary and bring so much new life after they pass. And that same wisdom can happen in my life! How can I allow the storms that pass in my own personal life become the source of new growth and life inside of my own life? Where can I shift this perspective inside of myself to see my storms as amplifiers and a water source for my own personal journey? In my personal and professional life! I look forward to meditating on this insight and seeing where I can allow growth to happen for myself so that I can share it with others!

Anna and Jess, such powerful and honest insights to your internal process as you become truly aware with the outside world. Rather than focusing on what is happening around you, bringing in the breath and the Sacred Questions has allowed both of you to take your awareness a few levels deeper. Down to Soul, where there is vast wisdom and clarity. And I always enjoy when others posts resonate and impact other peoples process in these discussions! I also love the “before I pull the trigger, I have to take aim” analogy!

Keep up the awesome work and consistent practice!

Once again such wonderful posts from everyone. I can sense the awareness and shift being shared by you all as you intentionally step into the experiential practice of this work. And the insights you all share are amazing!

I am hearing from Stacy, Lynn and Lisa how methodically your feeling and thinking has shifted by allowing yourself time and space to practice the breath and the Sacred Questions. And that is the beauty of these questions, they allow us to be curious about ourselves without judgment or criticism. These questions allow us to look inside of ourselves with a sense of grace so that we can find the great wisdom lying within ourselves that is always there, waiting to show up. And we all have the chance to tap into this part of ourselves in a moment’s notice! Peace, joy, happiness are only one thought or one awareness away from us.

And when we practice this exercise over and over again we are able to learn more about ourselves which influences and impacts our relationship to everyone and everything outside of us. We can literally allow the mind and body to be in harmony so that we can be in true harmony with the earth, with our loved ones, and with our vision.

Keep up the awesome work and I look forward to seeing you all and hearing your insights in our next webinar tomorrow!

Stacy and Jane, thank you so much for sharing your personal insights and authentic experiences with nature. And I love the diversity in geography that’s being shared here!

And with all of these amazing responses that have come in I also want to share a little bit of my experience with this question.

What is Nature-Connection, why is it important to you, and what are the real challenges that you face in maintaining your connection?

To me nature connection is more of an internal experience than an external experience. I view nature as a container for deep introspection, a teacher and metaphor to the great mysteries of life, and a mirror to my current state and true self. Nature connection is when I am able to perceive the outside from an internal lens that guides me towards the answers to the questions that I am bringing to my nature experience. I am truly able to explore my internal wilderness through my time spent in the external wilderness.

I can only connect with nature and be rooted in my experience as deeply as I am connected and rooted within myself. And that is why nature is the perfect mirror, if I feel angry and agitated as I go into the outdoors then I will immediately know this because everything in nature just annoys me more. And if I enter nature with respect, gratitude and intention then my experience will mirror that with the outside world. I will see all the beauty and splendor that nature is showing me at every turn on the trail.

And this is why nature connection is important to me. I’ve learned more about myself from my time in nature than in any classroom or office. Nature has become my sanctuary for learning what truly matters. And how I need to be in the world. And the greatest challenge I face in this connection with nature is my own self. Yes, the outside world offers plenty of distractions and “noise”, but I am also aware that I have the power to tap into nature connection at any time by tapping into my own internal wilderness.

Nature connection isn’t just a physical act in the woods, it’s a way of being in every moment of our lives. So in the end I know that I am my greatest ally and I am also my greatest challenge in deepening my connection to nature.

Because nature is all around me. All the time.

Doc, what a wonderful way to spend time with your dad as a kid! And that your quality time together was learning and exploring combined with a healthy dose of silence and just being with each other. And I completely understand when you say that many people out there do not understand, or want to understand, that we are roommates on this planet and that we need to appreciate this planet and the time we spend on it. And that is why having like-minded people to connect with in this perspective and deep love for the earth is so important. So I am so glad that you are here with us on this course and connected with the enormous EBI community of nature-loving folks!

Wayne, thank you so much for your detailed and heart-felt response to this first module in APNC! I can sense the impact of calm and balance that nature has brought to your life and that you deeply understand the value of spending time in the great outdoors. It’s wonderful to hear that you are on a great career path and that you are also aware that the need for balance will always be there. And one way to know that what we say is authentic to us is when we see the need and desire to share that internal experience through nature with others. Which is what you just shared! Looking forward to seeing more of your posts and learning more about you from this course!

In the last webinar covering Long Term Coaching, on February 5th, I shared a tool that I invite you all to use. I shared the idea of creating a storyline or journey of your ideal client as they work with you one-on-one. When I graduated from the NCC program I worked with several clients for only one or two sessions and I quickly realized that this was not the path I wanted in my own personal coaching. I want to walk with my clients on their journey for more than that.

True transformation and change takes time and my intention is to empower my clients to becoming their own best coach. I want to see that happen!

So I’ve learned to create a storyline for my ideal client with me. 3 to 6 months has been an ideal amount of time for me and my clients, but what does that look like? Each person’s journey is unique, but there are beacons we all share that guide the way toward living out their deeper need. And that’s what I create and share in great detail with my potential clients in our initial discovery session.

After getting to know them, their story, the vision they have for their life and the challenges they are currently facing at this moment, then I am able to vividly see in my mind’s eye a clear idea of how we can work together and how the flow might look. I paint a picture for my client. I share the journey, the struggles, and the amazing results they will experience if they fully commit to working with me. I share in as much detail as possible. How often will we meet? What will be the incorporation practices that are unique and specific for my client over time? Why are they here and willing to do this work with me?

When you are truly listening and sharing the potential journey that you will guide them down then that can also be one of the most empowering actions you can do for your potential client too! You are seeing them for who they are! And showing them the great possibilities that can come to reality!

To give you all an example of how this may look, my generic template is that my ideal client and I start with awareness. You can’t change what you are not aware of. Once awareness is practiced then we get into what their TRUE WANT and TRUE DEEPER NEED is. I’ve learned with my personal clients that most of them come to me with some “non-ideal” perspectives of what they truly want in their lives. A lot of people look at this aspect of their life from a place of fear rather than love.

From there it gets into action and embodiment of the deeper need until it becomes natural for them. They are consciously living out the deeper need!

If you can share with your potential client how long-term coaching will look for the two of you and you descriptively share how the journey will look for both of you then you are giving the gift of making their dreams one step closer to reality! They are starting to see how this will look and feel like for them! They can see in their own mind how this will come to be a reality for them.

So I invite you all to visualize the journey for your ideal client and how it will look on the other side for them. How have you gone down your own journey of transformation? Use your expert skills and personal experience to guide this visualization. You all have great gifts to give your clients and sharing how that will look for them is your opportunity to feel confident in your long-term coaching skills!

If you are curious to learn how this may look for you, just let me know and we can discuss in person as well.

    Hey Sam,

Thanks so much for reaching out and so happy to see you’re able to get linked back in with us!

I appreciate that you shared about the value you get from your time in nature and that developing a sustainable nature-connected practice is very important to you and is also a practice that you want to empower and maintain. I’m curious to know what specific details in the habits/routines department that you would like to focus on. Is it consistency in your routines and rituals that you are looking for? Or taking the habits/routines you are already doing to a deeper level? And what does sustainability in your routines look like for you?

I am guiding this webinar and would love to make sure that the material I cover touches on what exactly it is you are seeking and looking for! Looking forward to hearing your response!

Thanks for sharing Christine. I hear a lot of passion, desire and focus on manifesting your vision and that you are aware of the ways that fear shows up for you on this journey. And even though fear is there, I can also tell that your energy and fire towards living your vision is greater than the fear and setbacks currently in your way. Keep up the consistent work and tenacity and keep empowering that connection to Soul and Vision! I look forward to hearing how this relationship to your vision keeps transforming.
